U.S. Law Group Client UG Strategies Partners with Moogfest in Multi-Year Deal

U.S. Law Group‘s client UG Strategies has partnered with Moogfest to become the exclusive producer, licensee and agency-of-record for the multi-day music, art and technology festival held annually in Durham, North Carolina.  Under the multi-year deal and beginning with the 2018 event, UG Strategies will manage all facets of production, sponsorships and artist relations for the annual festival held in memory of Bob Moog, the inventor of the Moog Synthesizer and electronic music.

Our firm’s Managing Attorney, Usman Shaikh, represented UG Strategies in the months-long negotiations and has been named Production Attorney for Moogfest.  Usman is also the Production Attorney for Ondalinda x Careyes, a music and arts festival in Mexico that Vogue has called the new luxe Burning Man.

Moogfest, the four-day futuristic music, art and tech conference and festival held each year in Durham, North Carolina, announced the second wave of artists and keynotes scheduled for its festival this May 17-20. KelelaKRS-OneMouse On MarsJon HopkinsLittle BootsShabazz Palaces and Waajeed are among the new artist additions. They’ll join a first wave announced in December that included Jenny Hval, Jamila Woods and Gavin Rayna Russomof LCD Soundsystem.

Nine of the artists at the festival will be performing in a 360-degree audio setup called A3, developed in collaboration with Meyer Sound and Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology, and have been working with engineers to tailor their performances to take advantage of the space. Hval, Mouse on Mars, Waajeed and Aurora Halal are among the artists who will be performing under the Moogfest Spatial Sound banner. A conversation on diversity in the tech world will be led by Eniac Ventures’ Nihal Mehta and American Underground’s Doug Speight, while Ezra Miller, Ghostdad and Rainer Kohlberger will make a presentation on visual design.

In addition to the lineup announcement, Moog Music, the synthesizer maker that produces Moogfest, announced that UG Strategies will become its new global agency of record, taking over the ownership of the license to Moogfest with a multi-year worldwide sponsorship agreement. “
[UGS has] a deep track record of creating events that are both true to the ethos of Moog, our core audience, and the wonderful community of electronic musical instrument designers that share the Moogfest platform with us,” Moog Music brand director Emmy Parker said in a statement about the deal.

As part of the agreement, UGS will lead production and programming for the festival moving forward, with plans for international expansion in the works. “We’ve enjoyed a collaborative relationship with Moog Music for years, and couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to extend our partnership even further,” UGS founder/CEO Parag Bhandari said in a statement. “The Moog brand and Moogfest property are some of the most forward-thinking in their industries. We are honored to work with this team and the legendary Moog product, as well as the city of Durham, and take Moogfest to the next level.”

Former Rapture member Gabriel Andruzzi will also be leading the festival’s daily sound baths, while Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland will present an “experimental performance” during a four-hour durational. Chelsea Manning will also be on hand to deliver a Future of Creativity keynote, while researchers, professors and engineers from Duke, UCLA, NYU and Google, among others, will be hosting workshops and conversations as well.”
